ðŸĶĒ
📄 Paper Craft Tutorial

No scissors, no glue — just a sheet of paper and little hands ready to fold! These 3 beginner-friendly origami projects are perfect for ages 4–6.

⏱ïļ 5–10 min each
ðŸŽŊ Beginner Level
ðŸ‘ķ Ages 4–6
📄 1 Sheet of Paper
Why origami for kids? Origami helps children improve fine motor skills, focus, and patience — all while creating something magical from a plain sheet of paper. The projects below use only basic folds, so even first-timers will succeed on their first try!
âœĶ What You Need

Gather these simple supplies before you start. One sheet is enough for each project!

📄
Square Paper
15×15 cm works best
✏ïļ
Flat Surface
Table or desk

âĪïļ Origami Heart

A lovely little heart — great for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s, or just because! Takes about 5 minutes.
Fold in half ➜ make a crease ➜ unfold
1
Step 1
Fold in Half Vertically

Place your square paper flat on the table. Fold the right side over to meet the left side exactly. Press the fold firmly with your finger, then unfold it back open. You should see a crease line in the middle.

ðŸ’Ą Make sure all corners line up perfectly before pressing the crease!
Fold top down to center — crease and unfold
2
Step 2
Fold Top Down to Center

Now fold the top edge down to meet the horizontal crease you just made. Press firmly to create a new crease, then unfold it again. Your paper now has a cross (+) pattern of crease lines.

ðŸ’Ą These crease lines are your guide marks — they show you where to fold next!
Fold both top corners down to the center crease
3
Step 3
Fold Top Corners to Center

Fold the top-left corner down so it touches the center crease line. Do the same with the top-right corner. You’ll see a triangle-like point forming at the top. Press both folds flat.

ðŸ’Ą The two corner points should meet exactly at the center — like a little roof!
Flip over — your heart is ready! âĪïļ
4
Final Step
Round the Bottom & Flip Over!

Fold the bottom corners slightly inward to make the bottom of the heart round. Then flip the whole paper over. You’ll see a beautiful pink heart! Decorate it with markers if you like.

🎉 Congratulations! Your origami heart is complete. Give it to someone you love!
⭐ Super Easy

â›ĩ Origami Boat

A classic paper boat — fun to make and even floats on water for a few minutes! Perfect for rainy day fun.
Fold rectangle in half — hotdog style
1
Step 1
Fold in Half (Hotdog Style)

Start with a rectangular sheet of paper. Fold it in half the long way (top edge meets bottom edge). Press the crease firmly. Keep it folded — don’t open it this time!

ðŸ’Ą “Hotdog style” means folding the long way — like how a hotdog bun opens!
Fold top corners down to the center line
2
Step 2
Fold Corners to Center

With the fold at the top, fold the top-left corner down to meet the center of the bottom edge. Do the same with the top-right corner. This creates a house or triangle shape on top.

ðŸ’Ą You should have a triangle shape on top, with two little rectangles peeking out at the bottom.
Fold the bottom strips up on both sides
3
Step 3
Fold Up the Bottom Strips

There should be small rectangular flaps at the bottom. Fold the front flap upward so it covers the bottom edge of the triangle. Flip it over and fold the back flap up too. Press all folds flat.

ðŸ’Ą These flaps become the base of your boat — make sure they’re fully folded up!
Open the bottom and shape into a boat â›ĩ
4
Final Step
Open & Shape the Boat!

Gently pull the two bottom corners apart to open up the shape. Push the bottom in slightly to create a flat base. Your boat will take shape like magic — a pointy sail on top and a flat hull at the bottom.

🌊 Try floating it in a tray of water — it actually works for a little while!
⭐⭐ Easy

ðŸķ Origami Dog Face

A super cute dog face that kids absolutely love — just add eyes and a nose with a marker at the end!
Rotate paper as diamond — fold top point down
1
Step 1
Diamond Position & Fold Top Down

Place your square paper like a diamond (rotated 45°, so a corner points up). Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner. You now have a triangle shape. Press the fold firmly.

ðŸ’Ą Make sure you start with the paper as a diamond shape, not a square — the point goes at the top!
Fold left and right corners DOWN — these are the ears!
2
Step 2
Fold the Ears Down

You now have a triangle with the point facing up. Fold the left corner down slightly (not all the way to the bottom). Then fold the right corner down the same way. These become the dog’s floppy ears!

ðŸū Don’t fold the ears too far — just a little way down so they look floppy and cute!
Fold top point down a little — this is the nose!
3
Step 3
Fold the Nose

At the top point of your triangle, fold the very tip downward just a tiny bit. This creates the dog’s snout. Press the fold flat. Your dog is really starting to take shape now!

ðŸ’Ą Only fold a small amount — about 1 cm — so it looks like a cute little nose!
Draw eyes, nose & mouth with a marker! ðŸķ
4
Final Step
Draw the Face!

Your origami dog face is finished! Now use a black marker to draw two round eyes, a little dot for the nose, and a curved smile. You can also add spots or a tongue if you want!

ðŸŽĻ Use different colored papers for different dog breeds — brown for a Labrador, white for a Poodle!

🌟 Teacher & Parent Tips

Use larger paper for beginners — bigger folds are easier for small hands.
Sit side by side with the child so they can mirror your movements exactly.
Say it out loud — narrate each step while doing it together.
Celebrate mistakes — unfolding and trying again is part of learning!
Firm creases are the secret — teach kids to press hard with their thumbnail.
Let them decorate at the end — markers make every origami feel personalized!
